Environmental Issues Related to Oil and Gas Exploration and Production
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) sponsored a special session on "Environmental Issues Related to Oil and Gas Exploration and Production" (T12) at the Geological Society of America's Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 16-19, 2005. Information on the past and present impacts to soil, surface and ground waters, and ecosystems caused by exploration and production of petroleum and coal-bed methane were presented at the meeting. USGS scientists gave 10 presentations on the Osage-Skiatook Petroleum Environmental Research Site (OSPER), Okalahoma. The OSPER project is a multidisciplinary investigation to determine the fate and effects of the disposal of produced water on the near-surface environment.
