Arizona Speed Demonstration Project

2010

In conjunction with the Tucson Police Department (TPD), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), hosted a two-year speed enforcement demonstration project, which incorporated a comprehensive public information and education campaign, entitled Picture A Safer Tucson. The project was a sustained and comprehensive effort to help the motoring public in Tucson, AZ understand why speeding is dangerous and encourage drivers to slow down without the need for a traffic violation being issued. The demonstration was a 24/7 effort with 75% traditional enforcement and 25% Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras used.
