Current Research
- Compare the growth and physiological responses, and population genetic structure of two species of ponderosa pine differing in habitat preference.
- Use stable isotopes to measure dispersal and evaluate changes in nutrition for an invasive weevil feeding in mixed forest communities grown under different air quality conditions.
- Identify and quantify the fine roots of aspen clones to determine below ground productivity by using molecular markers to generate DNA fingerprints.
- Investigate the effects of elevated carbon dioxide and ozone on tree growth and plant physiology.
Why is This Important
To better manage forests for sustainability, we must understand how changes in the environment affect the genetic diversity, physiology, and productivity of the current and future generations of trees.
