U.S. Embassy Condemns Mosque Bombing in Faryab

October 26, 2012

The United States strongly condemns the bombing of a mosque in Maimana city, Faryab province today. At least 36 people were reportedly killed and 30 injured as they left a mosque after the opening prayers of the holy observation of Eid al-Adha. This attack against innocent worshippers further demonstrates the insurgency's lack of respect for religion, faith and its disregard for the safety and security of the Afghan people.

Our sympathies go out to those affected by today's bombing, and we wish a speedy recovery to the wounded. We will continue to stand with the Afghan people and government in the pursuit of a stable, prosperous, and democratic Afghanistan that no longer has to suffer from terrorist acts.
