Message from U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker To Mark the Start of Ramazan

On behalf of the people of the United States and our Embassy in Kabul, I want to wish all Muslims in Afghanistan and around the world a happy and blessed Ramazan.

For Muslims -- in Afghanistan, in America, and around the world -- Ramazan is a time of reflection, sacrifice, discipline and purification. Millions of American Muslims will join you in observing Ramazan; Islam is our second largest religion.  It is a special time, with families and communities gathering together for Iftar and prayers.  In keeping with this tradition, our Embassy will be hosting a number of Iftars in Afghanistan for Muslims and non-Muslims to join together and share our common values, faith and the blessings of the past year. These celebrations are a chance to reflect on the principles we hold in common, as well as on Islam’s role in advancing justice, tolerance, and the dignity of all.

During this time of renewal, I wish all Afghans a Ramazan Mubarack.
