U.S. Embassy Condemns Mosque Bombing in Chaparhar

The United States joins the government of Afghanistan in strongly condemning the bombing of a mosque in Chaparhar district, Nangarhar Province yesterday that injured 19 civilians. The bomb went off during Friday prayers at the Dawlatzai mosque, and left the imam in critical condition. This attack against an innocent congregation during the holy month of Ramazan further demonstrates that the insurgents have no respect for the safety and security of the Afghan people.

Our sympathies go out to those affected by yesterday's bombing, and we wish a speedy recovery to the wounded. We will continue to work with the Afghan people and government for a stable, prosperous, and democratic Afghanistan that no longer has to suffer from terrorist acts.
