2010 Census

National Summary File of Redistricting Data — The same population, housing unit counts and demographic characteristics that were provided to the states in February and March will be available in April for the United States and other cross-state geographies, such as regions; divisions; metropolitan areas; and American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian areas through American FactFinder. (Scheduled for release April 14.)

2010 Census Demographic Profiles — The Demographic Profiles will go into more subject detail than the recently released 2010 Census redistricting data files on age, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, and housing occupancy. It will also offer data on new topics available from the 2010 Census, such as sex, household relationship, household type, group quarters population and housing tenure. The profiles will be released on a state-by-state flow basis for each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico down to place/functioning minor civil divisions, as well as for the United States, regions, divisions, and other areas that cross state boundaries through American FactFinder. (Scheduled for release in May. A pre-release webinar is planned for late April.)

Advance Group Quarters Summary File — This file contains one table showing counts for seven types of group quarters from the 2010 Census. The institutionalized group quarters categories include correctional facilities for adults, juvenile facilities, nursing facilities/skilled-nursing facilities and other institutional facilities; while the noninstitutionalized group quarters categories include college/university student housing, military quarters and other noninstitutional facilities. Data are shown for states, counties, census tracts and blocks. This table will only be available via the FTP site and is identical to table P42 in Summary File 1 to be released this summer. (Scheduled for release in late April.)

Demographic

Educational Attainment in the United States: 2010 — Who is more likely to have earned a college degree — men or women? How many of us who begin work toward a degree actually earn one? Tables from the Current Population Survey present national data on the highest level of education achieved, showing, for the first time, exactly how many years of education adults have at each broad level of attainment, making it possible to determine exactly how close people came to graduating. Included as well are historical tables on mean earnings by level of attainment. (Scheduled for release in April.)

Fertility of American Women: 2010 — This release profiles fertility patterns of American women by age, race, ethnicity, education, marital status, income and nativity. These data were collected from the Fertility Supplement to the June 2000 and 2010 Current Population Surveys. (Scheduled for release in April.)

Economic

State and Local Government Employee Retirement Systems: 2009 — Provides an annual look at the financial activity of the nation's state and local public employee retirement systems, including cash and security investment holdings, receipts and payments. (State data scheduled for release in April. State and local to be released forthcoming.)

Survey of Business Owners: Asian-Owned Businesses: 2007 — Data set showing the number of privately owned firms, sales and receipts, number of paid employees and annual payroll of businesses owned by people of Asian origin. For the first time since 2002, counties and metropolitan areas and cities can see profiles of Asian-owned businesses in their area. Findings will be presented at a webinar news conference. (Scheduled for release April 28.)

Economic Indicators — The Census Bureau releases statistics that provide monthly, quarterly and yearly updates on key measures of the nation's economic condition. Upcoming releases in April include manufacturing and trade inventories and sales, new residential construction and new home sales. Current Industrial Reports (CIRs) — These data provide monthly, quarterly and annual measures of industrial activity. The 47 CIRs focus on groups of industries such as textile and apparel, chemicals, primary metals, computer and electronic components, industrial equipment, and consumer goods and provide current and historical data on data on production and shipments of selected products. CIR data are used to satisfy economic policy needs and for market analysis, forecasting, and decision-making in the private sector. Facts for Features

2011 Hurricane Season — The north Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and lasts through November. The Census Bureau produces timely local data that are critical to emergency planning, preparedness and recovery efforts. This edition of Facts for Features highlights the number of people living in areas that could be most affected by these dramatic acts of nature. (Scheduled for release in April.)

Father's Day — The Census Bureau honors “dear old dad” with a collection of statistical information from its demographic and economic subject areas pertaining to Father's Day, from stay-at-home dads to time spent with their children. (Scheduled for release in mid-April.)

Census Bureau Director Groves Outlines His Vision for Moving Census Bureau Forward — April 6 — Census Bureau Director Robert Groves testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Financial Management, Government Information, Federal Services and International Security, on lessons learned and the future of the Census Bureau. Groves highlighted early quality indicators of the 2010 Census, outlined organizational changes geared to building the Census Bureau of the future and discussed planning efforts under way for a successful 2020 Census. 2010 Census Advertising Campaign Earns Prestigious Ogilvy Awards — March 31 — The Advertising Research Foundation honored the U.S. Census Bureau with two prestigious David Ogilvy Awards for Excellence in Advertising Research at its annual awards ceremony March 22 in New York City. The 2010 Census communications campaign was named a gold winner as the nation's best multicultural advertising effort in 2010. Dynamics of Economic Well-Being: Fluctuations in the U.S. Income Distribution: 2004-2007 — April 7 — This report follows the movement of U.S. households up and down the income ladder over a 48-month period. Finances of Selected State and Local Government Employee Retirement Systems: 4th Quarter 2010 — March 31 — This quarterly survey provides national summary data on the revenues, expenditures and composition of assets of the 100 largest state and local public employee retirement systems in the United States. This survey presents the most current data about investment decisions by state and local public employee retirement systems, which are among the largest types of institutional investors in the U.S. financial markets. Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue: 4th Quarter 2010 — March 29 — This summary shows quarterly tax revenue data on property, sales, licenses, income and other taxes. Data are shown for individual state governments as well as national-level estimates of total state and local taxes, including 12-month calculations. National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife-Associated Recreation — March 29 — Conducted every five years by the U.S. Census Bureau, the first wave of data collection for the National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation from 53,000 households across the country began on April 1. The information collected for this survey focuses on individuals involved in fishing, hunting and other wildlife-associated recreation, such as observation, photography and feeding. Federal and state agencies use this knowledge for conservation efforts and to maintain areas where we go for outdoor recreational activity. Quarterly Financial Report (QFR): 4th Quarter 2010 — March 28 — The QFR survey has expanded its coverage to include data for corporations in selected service industries and released these new data for the first time. The expanded coverage includes all industry groups in the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) information sector (NAICS 51) and all industry groups in the professional, scientific and technical services sector (NAICS 54), excluding legal services. The new service sector data has been released as part of the QFR's quarterly publication of financial data for corporations in the manufacturing, mining and trade sectors, which will be renamed the Quarterly Financial Report for manufacturing, mining, trade and selected service industries.
