Participation of Mothers in Government Assistance Programs: 2004 — Analyzes the socioeconomic characteristics of mothers participating in six public assistance programs, including Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, food stamps and Medicaid. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early to mid-May.)

States in Focus: Census Bureau Pre-Primary Snapshot — A look at the population, selected characteristics and 2004 voting percentage of states as they approach their 2008 primaries. Kentucky's and Oregon's profiles will be released May 14; South Dakota will be released May 28. Profiles of Older Workers: 2004 — The Census Bureau, in partnership with 31 states, has launched a series of reports on workers 55 and older. New Jersey's report is set for release the week of May 25, and Maryland is scheduled for the week of June 8. Voting and Registration in the Election of November 2006 — A detailed look at registration and participation in the most recent congressional election, as well as the characteristics of those who voted, those who registered, and a look at the reasons why people who were registered did not vote. Find out who were the likeliest voters based on region, education, income, employment, race and Hispanic origin, and other factors. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late May.)

International Data Base — The world population is expected to reach 7 billion in the next decade. More specific global population estimates and projections are released through the International Data Base, an Internet site where information on infant mortality, life expectancy, and other statistics for the world and more than 220 countries can be found. (Tentatively scheduled for release in early June.)

Economic

State and Local Government Finances: 2005-2006 — Downloadable Internet tables, covering state and local government financial activities in four broad categories: revenues, expenditures, outstanding debt and assets (cash and security holdings). The tables through 2004 can be found at <http://www.census.gov/govs/estimate>. Tentatively set for release in mid-May.

Facts for Features

Conversion from Analog to Digital TV (Feb. 17, 2009) — Facts and figures from the Census Bureau's statistical abstract and other federal sources relating to television programming and the conversion from analog to digital broadcasting. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late June or early July.).

Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act (July 26) — In observance of the 18th anniversary of the enactment of this groundbreaking law, statistical information from the Census Bureau's demographic subject areas about people with disabilities. (Tentatively scheduled for release in late May.)

Editor's note: Facts for Features are customarily released about two months before an observance in order to accommodate magazine production timelines.

2010 Census

Five Selected for Advisory Committees — April 30 — Five new members have joined the Census Bureau's race and ethnic advisory committees. These committees -- African-American, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Hispanic, and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander -- advise the Census Bureau on issues affecting minority populations.

Demographic

School Enrollment in the United States: 2006 — May 8 — A national-level update of characteristics of the nation's more than 75 million students. Internet tables include the number of students by attributes, such as age, sex, race, Hispanic origin, family income, type of college and vocational course enrollment. The full report with analysis of the details is expected this summer.

Support Providers: 2005 — May 6 — Monthly child support payments averaged $425 in 2005. Across the nation, nearly 8 million people provided $43 billion in monetary support to people living in other households.

Estimates of U.S. and State Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2007 — May 1 — Hispanics, at 45.5 million, comprised 15 percent of the U.S. population, remaining the nation's largest minority group. National and state estimates by race, Hispanic origin, sex and age showed that blacks were second at 40.7 million. Broadcast rip-and-read scripts are available for each state and the District of Columbia in English and Spanish.

National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation — May 2 — More than 87 million Americans participated in wildlife-related recreation in 2006, spending more than $122 billion. Data for 34 states have been updated. The Census Bureau conducted this survey for the U.S. Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service.
