2006 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

"Institutions of higher education have a long tradition of service to their communities. When colleges organize effective community service programs, they do so not only to meet the needs of the communities that surround them, but to improve the academic and civic lives of their students, faculty, and staff."

- David Eisner, Chief Executive Officer
Corporation for National and Community Service

The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, annually highlights the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve.

The Corporation for National and Community Service announces the annual Honor Roll award recipients, recognizing more than 600 colleges and universities for exemplary, innovative, and effective community service programs.

On October 17, 2006, six awards were presented to the winners of the President’s Honor Roll for Higher Education Community Service at an event honoring Campus Compact’s 20th Anniversary (view the press release). Presented in concert with Campus Compact, the 2006 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, the USA Freedom Corps, and the U.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development. More than 500 applications were received for the Honor Roll in its inaugural year.
