Colonel Joel T. Hanson is vice commander of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. The center is composed of one wing and two wing-equivalent directorates; the 377th Air Base Wing and Nuclear Capabilities Directorate at Kirtland AFB; and the ICBM Systems Directorate at Hill AFB, Utah. The AFNWC is responsible for the entire scope of nuclear weapons support functions and comprises units at Kirtland AFB; Tinker AFB, Okla.; Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Hill AFB, Utah; and Lackland AFB, Texas.

Colonel Hanson earned his commission upon graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1990. His assignments include ICBM maintenance officer tours at Ellsworth AFB, S.D. and Vandenberg AFB, Calif. He also served as a Logistics Career Broadener and Aide de Camp at the Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill AFB, Utah and as an action officer and executive officer on the air staff in the Office of the Inspector General, Pentagon, Washington D.C. At F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo., Colonel Hanson served as a maintenance operations officer and commander of the 90th Maintenance Operations Squadron. He also served as the chief of the maintenance and communications inspection branch, Inspector General, Peterson AFB, Colo. Before assuming his current position, he was commander of the 91st Maintenance Group, Minot AFB, North Dakota.
