Col. David Hornyak is vice commander of the 377th Air Base Wing, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. The wing provides highly trained forces in support of the Air Force nuclear enterprise, expeditionary combat forces to the combatant commanders, and is responsible for installation security, operations, maintenance and mission support for more than 23,000 personnel who live and work on Kirtland AFB's 52,000 acres.

The 377th Air Base Wing is host to more than 100 mission partners, including the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, Air Force Safety Center, Air Force Inspection Agency, Air Force Distributed Mission Operations Center, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Air Force Research Laboratory, 58th Special Operations Wing, 150th Wing, New Mexico Air National Guard, U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration and Sandia National Laboratories.

Col. Hornyak is a 1989 graduate of the University of Central Florida.
After earning a commission through the ROTC program as a Distinguished Graduate, he entered Specialized Undergraduate Navigator Training at Mather AFB, Calif., earning his wings in 1990. As a B-52 instructor, he was a Distinguished Graduate and Top Academic Award winner from the USAF Weapons School. Col. Hornyak 's staff tours include serving as a member of the Pentagon think-tank "Checkmate," where he led the formulation of theater and national level strategies, including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and as the vice commander of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, where he facilitated and enabled the continued development of the nuclear enterprise. He has commanded at the squadron level twice, leading combat flying operations in Operation Enduring Freedom while commanding an Operations Support Squadron.
