AESDirect passes the One Million Mark for SED Transactions Submitted to the U.S. Customs AES System

In late 1999, the U.S. Census Bureau opened AESDirect, its Free Internet SED Filing Service. Just over one year later AESDirect hit the 1 Million SED Mark. At around 5.30 pm on January 18th, 2001 AESDirect successfully submitted the 1 millionth SED Export Transaction to the U.S. Customs Automated Export System (AES). "We are delighted with this achievement. In addition to this milestone, AESDirect is now processing over 150,000 shipments a month from over 3,400 companies" said Bob Foley. Mr. Foley is President of FCS, the Internet ASP company that developed and operates the AESDirect service for Census.

RPM International of Brownsville, Texas submitted the 1 millionth SED. "We are very pleased with AESDirect. We began using AESDirect one year ago and have had no problems with it. We are excited to know we sent in the 1 millionth SED. The system is very user-friendly and best of all it is free" said President, Ruben Perez.

"Although this SED was the millionth sent through AESDirect, it is important to note that RPM International sent the data error-free. This has been a great benefit for Census since implementing AESDirect. AESDirect has reduced the error rate of export reporting and improved the quality of export trade statistics" said Gerard J. Horner, Chief, AES Branch, Foreign Trade Division, U.S. Census Bureau.
