Emergency Appointments

Emergency Appointments

Applicants* may inquire about an expedited appointment under certain circumstances via email, such as:

  • An immediate relative's death, grave illness or life-threatening accident in the United States. Be sure to include the name, relationship, place and description of the situation, and contact information for the attending physician or funeral home.
  • Urgent medical treatment for the applicant or their minor child.
  • An application for a student or exchange visitor (F/M/J) visa (and dependent family members traveling with them) whose I-20 or DS-2019 has a start date that is earlier than the first available visa appointment. We are unable to currently consider ESL programs with rolling start dates.
  • An unexpected need to travel to the United States for urgent business purposes that is occurring within 10 days after the first available visa appointment.
  • An unexpected visit that is of significant cultural, political, journalistic, sporting or economic importance that is occurring within 10 days after the first available visa appointment.
  • Please be aware: Due to demand we are unable to grant every qualified emergency appointment request, and we will take into consideration factors including recent visa refusals.

Requesting an Expedited/Emergency Appointment
You must schedule an appointment through the ordinary procedure first either by calling the call center or the website at www.usvisa-info.comOnly if you do not receive an appointment in time for your emergency travel listed above, you may use the following procedure:

Email: You must contact the Consular Section (choose either Istanbul OR Ankara) where you scheduled your interview to request an emergency appointment:

The Consular Section will review your request and send you an e-mail response informing you whether your request has been granted. If the Consular Section is unable to grant your request, you may keep your original interview time.

 > In all cases, the applicant will be expected to bring documentation to the interview which substantiates the emergency in addition to those forms and supporting documents normally required.
