Overview

The Northwest Parkinson's Disease Research, Education and Clinical Center (NW PADRECC) is a collaborative effort of the Portland VA Medical Center (affiliated with OHSU, Oregon Health & Science University) and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle.  Both sites offer clinical, research, and educational services and activities for Veterans living in the Northwest PADRECC service area as well as interested clinicians.

Our primary purpose is to improve the health care of Veterans with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders and to contribute to our understanding of this disease through scientific inquiry.  We provide exceptional and comprehensive clinical care, state-of-the-art research, and education and support for Veterans, their families, and health care professionals for all aspects of Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.

NW PADRECC Service Area

The NW PADRECC serves Veterans living in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa, and is one of six centers throughout the United States.  Operating as a national consortium, each PADRECC conducts research covering basic biomedicine, rehabilitation, health services delivery, and clinical trials.  Each is participating in a landmark clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of surgical implantation of deep brain stimulators to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
