Understanding essential fish habitat requires we know the quantity and quality of nearshore habitat along Alaska’s coastline. Currently we are using the coastal habitat mapping system, ShoreZone to map Alaska’s coastline. This standardized system catalogs both geomorphic and biological resources at mapping scales of better than 1:10,000. You can "fly the coastline" (video), view still photos, access biophysical data, protocols, metadata, and download imagery and habitat data using an interactive GIS Website.

The Alaska ShoreZone database is expanding as new mapping and locations are added each year. Also, this data is linked to the Fish Atlas database.
