GLERL-CILER Joint Seminar Series
Public seminars covering a variety of scientific topics, particularly
those relating to Great Lakes or national and global environmental issues
are jointly sponsored and hosted by NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research
Laboratory (GLERL) and the Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems
Research (CILER).
Seminars are held at GLERL or at designated
locations on the Ann Arbor campus of the University of Michigan. Specific
venue information is listed with each seminar announcement (see below).

Title: Reefs and Wrecks: Multidisciplinary Research at the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary

Abstract: Designated in 2000, the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary is one of 14 national marine sanctuaries dedicated to preserving our oceans and Great Lakes. Located off Alpena, Michigan on Lake Huron, the 448-sqauare mile sanctuary protects 45 known shipwrecks sites and supports a wide range of multidisciplinary research. The sanctuary is managed jointly by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the State of Michigan. Russ Green will talk about current research efforts at the sanctuary including, reef restoration, lakebed mapping, submerged sinkhole and archaeological projects.
