    Commander, 509th Signal Battalion

    Lieutenant Colonel Kevin P. Romano was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps in 1992. His first assignment was with the 40th Signal Battalion, 11th Signal Brigade, Fort Huachuca, Arizona where he served as a platoon leader, executive officer and assistant S3. He next served with the 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea, as the S6 for the 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment and Commander, B Company, 122nd Signal Battalion. Upon returning from Korea, he was selected to attend the United States Marine Corps Command and Control Systems Course. Following advanced civil schooling, he served as an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. Following graduation from the Command and General Staff College in 2005, LTC Romano was assigned to the 93rd Signal Brigade, Fort Gordon, Georgia where he served as the 67th Signal Battalion Executive Officer and Brigade S3. In 2007, he deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom as the Battalion S3, 25th Signal Battalion, 160th Signal Brigade. He subsequently served as the Chief, Materiel Development Branch, US Army Electronic Warfare Proponent Office, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. 

    LTC Romano's operational deployments include Operation Restore Hope, Somalia; Joint Task Force Bright Star, Egypt; Joint Task Force Katrina, New Orleans; and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

    LTC Romano's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, United Nations Medal and the NATO Service Medal. He is a recipient of the Order of Saint Barbara and the Bronze Order of Mercury. LTC Romano holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah and a Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics from the Naval Postgraduate School.
