Children holding hands

If your child has a claim to U.S. citizenship, it is necessary for the U.S. citizen parent to execute an application for a “Consular Report of Birth Abroad”, before a consular officer.

How do I Register a Child?

You are required to register your child in person and bring your child to this Embassy. We recommend that you register your child as soon as possible after his/her birth. It is not possible to register a child over the age of 18.

Please make sure that you carefully review the application process and the forms to ensure that your application is completed correctly.

Residents of Sweden: Please contact Embassy Stockholm for its documentary requirements. Applications which do not contain the documents required by Embassy Stockholm will not be accepted.  Parents will be required to re-schedule a new appointment.

IMPORTANT: As of 09 May 2011,  all American Citizen Services require an appointment.

Documents Required to Register a Child

Note: Applicants who arrive with forms that are incomplete or who have inadequate documentation to support a claim to citizenship may be asked to reschedule their appointment for another day. If you have questions about your forms or documentation, please contact us in advance of your appointment.
