112th Congress:  Action on Energy

I am pleased to support legislation and take actions that will support energy independence and initiatives, particularly those that are spearheaded by Idahoans. This is not a comprehensive list of all the legislation I have co-sponsored related to energy. You can view a comprehensive list at the Legislation Co-Sponsored Section of this site or through the Library of Congress Thomas site.

Legislation I have supported supported includes:

  • S.629 - A bill to substantially increase our nation’s hydropower capacity in an effort to expand renewable-power generation and create jobs in the hydropower industry.  Introduced March 17, 2011.
  • S.791 - A bill that would expand eligibility under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act to seven states, including Idaho.  Introduced April 12, 2011.
  • S.781 - A bill to amend the Clean Air Act to conform the definition of renewable biomass to the definition given the term in the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002.  Introduced April 8, 2011.
  • S.706 - 3-D, Domestic Jobs, Domestic Energy, and Deficit Reduction Act of 2011. A bill to stimulate the economy, produce domestic energy, and create jobs at no cost to the taxpayers, and without borrowing money from foreign governments for which our children and grandchildren will be responsible.  Introduced March 31, 2011.
  • S. 1149 - Geothermal Production Expansion Act. To expand geothermal production, and for other purposes. Introduced June 7, 2011.

Other actions I have taken to support Idaho energy initiatives include:

  • Currently serve as Co-Chair, Senate Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Caucus.

  • Wrote letter to Secretary Ken Salazar of the U.S. Department of Interior asking for revisions of Fish and Wildlife Service policies governing wind development and species protection.  A copy of the letter can be viewed here.
  • Wrote letter to Secretary Steven Chu of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in response to a DOE memo outlining the Secretary’s vision for the federal power marketing agencies.  A copy of the letter can be viewed here.
