The process of drafting and passing new “people friendly” criminal laws is a difficult one but it is certainly not impossible. USIP's Vivienne O'Connor visited Haiti recently to help work with the national actors engaged in the reform process by sharing with lawmakers a law reform tool –- the “Model Codes for Post-Conflict Criminal Justice” book -- that we developed in cooperation with the Irish Centre for Human Rights, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights and the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime.

In conjunction with the DC-based Association of Haitian Professionals, Senior Program Officer (Training) Nina Sughrue and Senior Program Officer (Post-Conflict Peace and Stability Operations) Robert Perito conducted a conflict management skills workshop on Saturday February 24, 2007 with Haitian Diaspora professionals from the Washington DC and New York metropolitan areas.

USIP has teamed up with Digital Democracy to train women activists in Haiti to monitor and report violence in their communities. 

This report draws on the experiences and lessons learned from Digital Democracy’s work with Haitian women's organizations in the aftermath of the January 2010 earthquake. With support from the U.S. Institute of Peace, Digital Democracy has conducted trainings for women activists in Haiti on how to use cell phone and other forms of information technology to prevent violence.
