Abstract: Economical and efficient kiln operations require proper kiln lay-out. The kiln should lie in the straight-line flow of lumber from the green chain, or point of supply, to the shipping out point. Such operations also require labor-saving machinery like stacking and unsticking equipment, lumber lifts and switching or transfer cars. For economy, lumber should not be moved or handled by hand more than absolutely necessary.
