Description
Position Title: Postdoctoral Position in Aerosol, Clouds and Climate Studies

The California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Postdoctoral Scholars Program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in JPL's Earth Atmospheric Science section.

The research will involve use of satellite and other observations to study regionally dependent aerosols influence on clouds, precipitation and climate. Immediate emphasis is on the continued satellite data analysis using collocated "A-Train" data to investigate the relationships of aerosol profiles with cloud top height, cloud particle size, cloud fraction, cloud water content, and precipitation intensity and frequency, on a regional and seasonal basis.. Dr. Jonathan H. Jiang, in JPL's Earth Atmospheric Science section, will serve as JPL postdoctoral advisor to the selected candidate. The appointee will carry out research in collaboration with the JPL advisor, resulting in publications in the open literature.

Candidates should have a recent PhD in atmospheric or ocean sciences, or a closely related field, with a strong background in atmosphere data analysis or modeling. Experience in in NASA A-Train satellite data analysis, computer programming using FORTRAN, IDL and/or MatLab is highly desirable. Candidates who have received their PhD within the past five years since the date of their application are eligible. The annual starting salary for recent PhDs is $52,000 USD and can vary somewhat according to the selected applicant's qualifications. Postdoctoral Scholar positions are awarded for a minimum of one-year period and may be renewed up to a maximum of three years.
