Forecast Discussion: Current Conditions: Cold air is not too far away as of 2 p.m. EST this Friday afternoon. The leading edge of the cold air is located in Ohio and will be moving in over the next few hours. A bit of snow will also accompany the cold air advection. Increasing amounts of mixing this afternoon are resulting in air quality lowering into the good range. Snow showers will continue tonight with little accumulation expected. *** Saturday's forecast: Cold with clouds most of the time for the day Saturday. Just a snow shower or two can still occur. Highs will not get above the upper 20s with adequate amounts of mixing promoting good air quality. Quite cold Saturday night with a snow shower still possible. Lows in the middle teens. *** Sunday's forecast: High pressure will then start building in for the day Sunday with clouds breaking for a little sun. Highs mainly in the middle and upper 20s with very dry air promoting low levels of fine particulate. *** Monday's forecast: Sunshine to start Monday, then clouds will increase as the day progresses. Temperatures will recover to near 40 by the afternoon. Fine particulate levels may rise some for Monday as mixing lessens and the possibility of a temperature inversion exists in the morning, so levels might reach into the moderate zone for several hours. *** Extended forecast: A cold front will sweep through the region on Tuesday. With this, there can be some rain, with perhaps a bit of snow to start early Tuesday. Good vertical and horizontal mixing ahead and behind the front should mean air quality goes back into the good range. Cold air sweeps right back into the area for the middle of next week on gusty northwest winds and the renewed possibility of snow showers. Yet another storm may affect us with some precipitation late next week. Right now, it is too early to tell what track this storm will take and if enough cold air remains in place to bring more snow than rain.---McAuliffe
