Brigadier Ronald F. Lewis, Deputy Commanding General-Support, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)

BG Lewis graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1987. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mechanics from West Point and a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College.

BG Lewis’ command assignments include command of A Company, 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, Aviation Brigade, 1st Calvary Division, command of 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 4th Aviation Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Iraq, command of 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan.

BG Lewis served as the Senior Military Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense, Dr. Ashton B. Carter, from October 2011 to October 2012. In October 2012, BG Lewis transitioned to become the Deputy Commanding General (Support) for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

BG Lewis’ most recent key staff assignment was as the Senior Military Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Defense. BG Lewis’ other key staff assignments include Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics and Military Assistant to the Chairman, Defense Business Board, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington D.C., Senior Aviation Task Force Trainer, Operations Group, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California, S-3, 4th Brigade, 1st Calvary Division, Fort Hood, Texas, Executive Officer, 4th Squadron, 7th Calvary, 2d Infantry Division, S-3 (Operations), 6th Cavalry Brigade, and Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General Eighth United States Army, Korea.
 
BG Lewis’ awards and decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Combat Action Badge, Parchutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Master Army Aviator Badge.

BG Lewis is married and has two children.
