Mission:
Provide DoD and International Customers with Mission Ready Fire Protection and Special Instruments Graduates and provide mission support for the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC).
The 312th Training Squadron provides training for:
Military Training Leaders
MISSION:
To Produce The Best Airmen In The Air Force.
The Military Training Flight provides continuing military training for Air Force non-prior service students, utilizing a wide variety of programs designed to teach and enhance military standards and professionalism. We include advising, mentoring, and counseling in our military training to see that our students get the best possible start in their Air Force career.
We have five highly motivated enlisted Military Training Leaders (MTL's). One of their responsibilities is to enforce the 2AF Phase Program, a program designed to allow the airmen to earn privileges based on their performance. The students earn their privileges by performing well in retreat and parade ceremonies, curfew checks, dormitory room inspections, and physical conditioning (PC). Another program run by the MTL's is the Remedial Military Training (RMT) program. RMT is a day of intense training given to re-motivate and reinforce airman in their military training. Our MTL's take pride in ensuring that airmen graduating from the 312th have the capability to perform to the standards of the US Air Force.

HISTORY:
On September 16, 1947, General Dwight Eisenhower directed the responsibility for a new mission - detecting nuclear explosions anywhere in the world - be assigned to the Army Air Forces. With the creation of the US Air Force two days later, Long Range Detection was included among the first missions of our new service. Soon, a multitude of unique detection equipment was constructed and by 1954, the need for a dedicated training unit was evident. So in June, Special Instruments Training (SPINSTRA) was created to handle the extraordinary training.
MISSION:
The Special Instruments Training Flight is part of the 312th Training Squadron, and is tasked with providing mission-ready graduates to the Department of Defense to monitor international nuclear treaties.
PEOPLE:
The SPINSTRA team is comprised of a commander, superintendent, training and non-resident course development, maintenance shop and instructor staff.
TRAINING:
SPINSTRA starts with airmen and NCOs who achieve the highest scores on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test. After spending 9 weeks learning electronics principles, students are taught a core of essential knowledge including nuclear physics, mathematics, computer fundamentals, and system administration. The students are then entered into specialized training based on their first duty stations.

Graduates of our courses can be found working on all seven continents of the globe. We take great pride in developing future Air Force leaders!
Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy:
The Louis F. Garland Department of Defense Fire Academy is located inside Goodfellow AFB, which is situated inside the city of San Angelo, Texas. The Fire Academy is host to roughly 15 advanced Fire Protection courses and a very intensive Fire Protection Apprentice Course. The Academy services all aspects of the DoD; including Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Civil Service employees. Fire Protection Specialists from numerous foreign countries are also instructed at the Academy.
Courses at the Fire Academy include the Fire Protection Apprentice Course, Rescue Technician I Course, Rescue Technician II Course, HazMat Technician T-t-T (2002 ed), WMD Technician, Instructor III, Inspector, Fire Officer Courses, Fire Marshal, P-23 Distance Learning Course
