Maj. Gen. Jeffrey G. "Jeff" Lofgren is Commander, U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The USAFWC's mission is to shape the way our force fights through advanced training, operational testing, and tactics development in air, space, and cyberspace at the operational and tactical levels. The center provides a means to equip the force with proven technology, current tactics, advanced training and an opportunity to practice integrated force employment. The center executes six tasks: it certifies weapons systems for combat; develops joint, integrated, combat employment tactics for the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps; graduates advanced war-fighting experts from six unique schools; provides joint, integrated exercise venues for Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Army units; delivers solutions to immediate combat problems and new innovations to all warfighters; and Integrates air, space, and cyberspace capabilities, systems, forces and operations, in and through all domains, to deliver precise effects for the Joint Force Commander across the full range of military operations. The USAFWC is organized under Air Combat Command into four wings and one named activity with more than 11,000 Airmen serving in the 53rd Wing, 57th Wing, 99th Air Base Wing, 505th Command and Control Wing, and The Nevada Test and Training Range.
General Lofgren entered the Air Force in 1984 as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Fighter Weapons School, he has served as an F-16 instructor pilot at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. and Luke AFB, Ariz. In 1992, he was selected to be one of the initial cadre for the stand up of the composite wing at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho.
The general's staff assignments include Headquarters U.S. Air Force as Joint Requirement Oversight Council coordinator, and the Joint Staff J8, in the Force Structure, Resources and Assessment Directorate.
The general commanded the 14th Fighter Squadron, Misawa Air Base, Japan, deploying to Prince Sultan AB, Saudi Arabia, in support of Operation Southern Watch where he flew 23 combat sorties in the F-16. He has also commanded the 388th Operations Group at Hill AFB, Utah, the 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea and the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing, Al Dhafra Air Base, Southwest Asia.
The general also served as Director, Joint Advanced Warfighting Program-Analytical Program Office, Institute for Defense Analysis, Alexandria, Virginia, and Vice Commander, 1st Air Force (Air Forces Northern), Tyndall AFB, Florida, assisting the commander in organizing, equipping and operating air defense forces for aerospace warning and control in support of the Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command. Following this joint assignment, he was the Deputy Director of Operations for USNORTHCOM, Peterson AFB, Colorado, where he was responsible for all homeland defense, defense support to civil authorities and theater security initiatives in Mexico, Canada and the US.
He is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flight hours in the F-16, KC-10 and training aircraft.
