This position is in Fayetteville, NC and is aligned under the Social Work Service at the VA Medical Center Fayetteville, NC.  This social worker is assigned the Emergency Department with responsibility to provide direct services for adult and geriatric Veterans and their families who present for services in this area.  The incumbent works a tour of duty in combination of evening hours during the week and on weekends.

The incumbent is responsible for providing services to Veterans referred to the Emergency Department.  This professional Social Worker is responsible to provide a variety of services for Veterans referred from the Emergency Department including psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, short-term, solution focused counseling with individuals and families who may be in crisis, education and referral for resources and benefits, case management and post-intervention follow-up.  Responsibilites will also include consultation/education to Medical Center staff and service providers, the collection and maintenance of statistical data, program planning evaluation and modification, and the supervision of students as assigned.

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Full- time (Hours of duty may consist of alternative shifts or work schedules)

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification will be required before an appointment can be given.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

  • U.S. citizenship.  
  • Master's Degree
  • Licensure (licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level)
  • English language proficiency

 

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL:   Requires a completion of a minimum of one year of post-MSW degree professional social work experience in the field of health care social work and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently. (A clinical setting is a medical center, clinic - medical or psychiatric, residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where social work participates in a collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession.) Experience must have been obtained AFTER earning a Master's Degree in Social Work.  

SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 LEVEL:   To meet the required specialized experience for the GS-11 level, applicant may substitute a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work.   You must submit a transcript to receive credit for this education.
