Support in Health System Strengthening and Combating Tuberculosis

USAID's commitment to improving global health includes confronting global health challenges through improving the quality, availability, and use of essential health services. USAID's objective is to improve global health, including child, maternal, and reproductive health, reduce the incidence of abortion and infectious disease, particularly HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.

In 2009, President Obama launched the Global Health Initiative (GHI), to improve health outcomes through strengthened platforms and systems. GHI will deliver on that commitment through an approach that is based on a set of core principles, such as strategic coordination and integration, country ownership and health systems strengthening. GHI helps partner countries improve health outcomes through strengthened health systems - with a particular focus on building on and expanding existing country-owned platforms to foster stronger systems and sustainable results. Strengthen health systems' functions to ensure the quality and reach of short- and long-term health services and public health programs, and work with governments to ensure the sustainability of their health programming.

In Belarus USAID places special emphasis on eradicating tuberculosis (TB). USAID plays a key role in supporting implementation of the National TB program and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria grant.
