Cultural Presentation Raises Money for Orphanage, School and NGOs
04/28/2009
About 25 young people visited the U.S. Embassy on April 28 to perform music, dance, and display their artwork to an international audience.
Children and youth from Orphanage No. 24, the Republican Boarding School of Art and the non-governmental organizations “Sanvikt” and “Umr,” which provide services for people with disabilities, showcased their talents to employees of the U.S. Embassy and diplomats from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Russia and Slovakia.
The presentation also served as a fundraiser for the groups, as they sold their arts and crafts on display.
The event was a continuation of the relationship the Embassy has built with several schools, orphanages and NGOs. Many American and locally hired employees have been asking what more they could do to help out, and this was one way to build on the contacts, said Tatiana O’Hara, the Community Liaison Office Coordinator at the Embassy.
“Last winter we worked with some orphanages, and we wanted to continue the work,” she said. O’Hara noted how talented the young people are, and that both the performers and audience seemed to enjoy the event.
