Congressman Matthew Cartwright

Representing the 17th District of Pennsylvania

Seniors Issues

The dignity of our seniors is at the forefront of Congressman Matt Cartwright’s policies.  While reforms are needed to protect the long term viability of Social Security and Medicare, the Congressman will fight to ensure that any changes which are enacted will not fundamentally change the guarantee that has been present since their inception.

In the case of Medicare, recent legislation has made significant additions to the program in which will add years of viability.  These changes are a good start, but Congressman Cartwright knows that further modifications are necessary to continue this program for the infinite future.  Matt will oppose any effort to privatize Medicare, to turn the program into a voucher, or to rob our seniors of the benefits they rely upon.

As an admirer of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Congressman Cartwright is fighting hard to ensure that Social Security provides benefits for not only our nation’s grandparents, but their grandchildren as well.  Social Security has dramatically reduced senior poverty for nearly eighty years, and the Congressman will oppose efforts to privatize the benefits of the program or take risks with its trust fund.
