Wagner Statement on January Jobs Report

Feb 1, 2013
Press Release

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Wagner (R-MO) released the following statement in reaction to the December jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor. A net total of 155,000 jobs were created, and the unemployment rate for January rose to 7.9 percent from the 7.8 percent rate previously reported for December.

“This economy is a wreck and Washington is doing more fighting than fixing. The time of pointing fingers, laying blame and screaming at the nearest media outlet is over. It’s about getting things done for our workers, our families and this country, together. These jobs numbers are stagnant because of a climate of hostility towards growth, hostility towards prosperity and a fantasy that government can solve everything.  From the President's jobs council shutting down this week to the paltry job numbers, to the shrinking of our overall economy, Washington has failed the American people. I will no longer stand by and allow our kids, grand kids and families to suffer because Washington won't work.  I came to Congress to get things done and now is the time to act.”
