JROTC cadets see Hurlburt Field mission first hand

About 40 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from Pensacola High School in Pensacola, Fla., attended a summer leadership school from July 16 through 20 at Hurlburt Field, Fla. The cadets ranged from sophomores through seniors.

Adopting these cadets as future Airmen, members at Hurlburt Field led the class in events such as repelling, boat maneuvers with special tactics Airmen and leadership classes with professional military education instructors.

The 2012 summer leadership school’s goal is to prepare cadets for leadership roles in their units, schools and local communities. SLS activities stress team building, leadership, respect for authority, responsible citizenship, personal character, academic achievement, health and fitness, and community service.

    It warms my heart to see that these kids got such a special opportunity. As a former member of JROTC, I know the unique experiences that the program offers and how much it impacts every person that participates in it. I know that my high school experience would not have been the same without the leadership opportunities that JROTC afforded, nor would I have been as inclined to join ROTC in college. I hope that the program continues creating better citizens and sparking interest in joining the Air Force and other branches of the military.
