FS Share produced a draft FS Series on Innovations in Financial Services Delivery: Branchless Banking, including a primer, diagnostic checklist and model scopes of work to provide U.S. government (USG) program designers with a basic understanding of branchless banking as a sustainable approach to increase access to financial services.

The primer and its case studies cover business models and partnerships, including Bradesco Bank's use of the postal network to increase its outreach to the rural poor in Brazil and Eko India's role as a business correspondent and payment platform provider for the State Bank of India,

The diagnostic checklist helps programmers evaluate preconditions and options to consider when designing branchless banking interventions.

The model scopes of work provide templates for program officers who are considering short-term or longer-term technical assistance.

FS Share produced FS Series #10: Establising Modern Secured Financing Systems in Developing Economies, including a primer, diagnostic checklist and model scopes of work, to provide U.S. government (USG) program designers with a basis of technical understanding of the core requirements to introduce finance secured by movable property, one of the most important tools to increase access to finance for small- and medium-sized enterprises.

FS Share produced FS Series #9: Enabling Mobile Money Interventions, including a primer, diagnostic checklist and model scopes of work, to provide U.S. government (USG) program designers with a basic technical understanding of mobile phone banking (m-banking) and mobile money transfers (MMT) and how to design approaches to increase access to financial services that promote financial inclusion.

FS Share produced FS Series #8: Rural and Agricultural Finance for Food Security, including a primer, diagnostic checklist and model scope of work, to provide U.S. government (USG) program designers with a tool to develop effective programming for integrating rural and agricultural finance (RAF) into USAID-supported food security strategies for vulnerable countries. FS Share produced FS Series #7: Enhancing the Leasing Enabling Environment, including a primer, diagnostic checklist and model scopes of work, to provide U.S. government (USG) program designers with a basis of technical understanding of lease financing as a sustainable approach to increasing access to financial services and practical tools to integrate best practices and lessons learned into effective economic growth programming.

The diagnostic checklist is designed to assist USG programmers with evaluating the preconditions and options available to integrate finance effectively toincrease productivity and competitiveness throughout the value chain. Finally, the MSOW provides sample language to integrate into effective programming.

This FS Series was developed by Caroline Averch, Eve Hamilton, and Timothy Stuckmeyer of Chemonics International and reviewed by the FS Share project management team.

The objective of this FS Series is to provide U.S. government (USG) program designerswith a basis of technical understanding of approaches to enable access to financing for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets. The FS Series includes a Primer, Diagnostic Checklist, and a Model Scope of Work. The Primer identifies the challenges that SMEs face in accessing finance and discusses financing solutions available to them, including traditional bank-lending approaches and more progressive asset-based financing techniques. The diagnostic checklist is designed to assist USG programmers with evaluating the preconditions and options available to enable access to financing for SMEs. Finally, the model scope of work in Annex B provides sample language to integrate into effective programming.
This FS Series was developed by FS Share consortium member Crimson Capital, with input from ShoreBank International Ltd. The Series was reviewed and edited by Chemonics International.

The objective of FS Series #3: Supporting the Establishment of Credit Bureaus is to provide a comprehensive review of three models to support the establishment of credit bureaus: a public sector registry; a private credit bureau; and a hybrid model that supports transitioning existing public registries to potential privatization.
FS Series #2: Health Sector Financing in Developing Countries provides an overview of health financing, including the core functions of health financing, common mechanisms and approaches, and financing issues frequently faced in low- and middle-income countries. This technical brief posits financial sustainability as an essential consideration in design and evaluation of assistance programs that seek to improve the health status of underserved populations and presents a draft plan to incorporate financial sustainability considerations into procurement documentation based on these components.
