The Week Ahead

Tuesday, June 5

  • Congress is expected to begin consideration of several pieces of legislation, including H.R. 5325, the FY13 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act; H.R. 436, the Protect Medical Innovation Act; H.R. 5855, the FY13 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act; and H.R. 5882, the FY13 Legislative Branch Appropriations Act.
  • 2:00 PM: Congressman Yarmuth speaks with Joe Elliott on 970-WGTK to update listeners on his work in Louisville and Washington.
  • Congressman Yarmuth cosponsors H.R. 1912, the Make It In America Block Grant Act. The bill authorizes the Secretary of Commerce to award grants to entities that support the U.S. manufacturing industry through various efforts, including retooling and retrofitting facilities, improving energy efficiency, and employee training and retraining.

 

Wednesday, June 6

  • 9:30 AM: The Oversight and Government Reform Committee holds a Congressional hearing to discuss the Department of Labor’s job reporting requirement.
  • 10:00: The House Budget Committee holds a hearing on the Congressional Budget Office’s long-term budget outlook, with testimony from CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf. 
  • Members of the House Democratic Caucus meet to discuss legislative priorities for the week.
  • Visitors to the office include local representatives from the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association, the National Association of Home Builders, Louisville Distilling Company, Century Lending Company, and the National Association of Manufacturers.
  • On the 68th Anniversary of D-Day, Congressman Yarmuth meets with World War II veterans from Louisville. The veterans are visiting the National World War II Memorial as part of the Honor Flight program.
  • The House is expected to vote on the Protect Medical Innovation Act, which repeals portions of the Affordable Care Act that apply to excise taxes on medical devices. 

 

Thursday, June 7

  • Visitors to the office include constituents and local representatives from the Citizens for Space Exploration, the American College of Physicians, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.
  • 3:30 PM: Congressman Yarmuth calls in to the Terry Meiners Show on 84-WHAS to update listeners on his work in Louisville and Washington.
  • The House is expected to vote on the FY13 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act.  The bill provides funding for all Homeland Security agencies, but it also includes several unnecessary policy provisions.

 

Friday, June 8

  • Congressman Yarmuth meets with local constituents, including a Girl Scout troop.
  • The House is expected to begin consideration of the FY13 Legislative Branch Appropriations Act.
