The Commercial Driver' s License (CDL) Program Improvement Grant for fiscal years 2006-2009 is authorized by Section 4124 of Public Law 109-59, more commonly known as the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).

Funding is provided through the Department of Transportation's annual appropriations act and has been set at $25,000,000 for fiscal years 2006-2009.
