Tobacco Ideas: Retailer Communication Channels & Messages

Help us identify the best approaches to reach retailers with information about Federal tobacco product regulations. Specifically, we would like your ideas on messages (view sample concepts below) and channels – digital, mobile, and traditional. This forum will be open from May 27 to June 9, 2010. Following that we’ll post future forums to get your ideas around FDA tobacco communication efforts.

Direct Mail to Retailers
FDA should mail retailers information on the new regulations.

Fund State enforcement who know their retailer's addresses/fund them getting out FDA messages
Create State Funding Accounts so State enforcement agencies who know their licensed retailers can get out your messages.

Through wholesalers & industry magazines
It would be easier to work with the wholesale industry as there are less of them to contact. Placing articles and ads in retail industry magazines like the convenience store type of mags as well as direct mailers.

Begin a campaign of getting all retailers to sign up on-line in order to get up-to-the minute info.
I suggest that the FDA use industry communication to present a campaign that would encourage retailers to sign up for on-line information and notices as rules evolve.

use the channel based media / press and various associations as well as social media.
Use NACS and other associations to broadcast messages.
Use media such as CSP / CSNews / CSD and other trade magazines to broadcast messages.
