Model Programs
Sharing information through technology is at the heart of NIJ’s information-led policing efforts. Following are some model programs that demonstrate how information-led policing can be accomplished:
- CANDLE. Collaboration between the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and a national program called Nlets for Driver License Exchange (CANDLE) that uses XML to improve driver-related inquiries for law enforcement. More on CANDLE Exit Notice.
- Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS). A network of criminal justice agencies that share information through a Web-based enterprise. More on ARJIS Exit Notice.
- The Effects of Data Quality on Machine Learning Algorithms. University of South Carolina researchers Valerie Sessions and Marco Valtorta won the inaugural Stuart Elliot Madnick Information Quality Best Paper Award at the 11th annual Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineering Systems Division’s International Conference on Information Quality. The research highlights the importance and relationship of data quality and algorithm design and implications for law enforcement decision support systems.
