Satellite Showcase
The 40th Anniversary of X-ray Astronomy
The summer of 2002 marks the 40th anniversary of the birth of X-ray
astronomy. We've come a long way since June 18, 1962, when the first
X-ray object outside our solar system was discovered. Our
understanding of the universe has grown as a string of X-ray
satellites have revealed exotic objects and energetic events.
This Special Exhibit provides a retrospective of the history of
X-ray astronomy, highlighting the contributions made through the use
of satellite observatories.
