Future Capability Product Description
Ozone Total

The Ozone product reflects the Total Ozone (in Dobson Units) found in a total column of atmosphere from the surface to the top of the atmosphere. The product is computed at each clear ABI pixel using several ABI infrared bands as well as atmospheric temperature profiles obtained from Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) forecast models. The Ozone Detection algorithm is based primarily on the sensitivity of the 9.7 µm band to ozone absorption but also on the relationship between ozone and potential vorticity (and thus the thermal structure of the atmosphere). The Total Ozone product is expected to provide information to forecasters that will help them forecast areas of atmospheric turbulence and to provide better forecasts of air quality. + Product ATBD
