Description

On February 6, 2013, Politico’s 2012 Pulitzer Prize winning political cartoonist, Matthew Weurker, participated in a Digital Video Conference (DVC) as the first guest speaker of a four-part series on political cartoon editorials. Posts in Abuja and Lagos joined in with viewing parties comprised of working cartoonists from local newspapers and media outlets. Mr. Weurker answered questions regarding his process for choosing topics and cartooning as well as commenting on the state of the cartooning industries in America and in Nigeria. The viewers showed great interest in learning about America’s constitutional right to freedom of expression, the history of political cartoons, and the differences between conservative and liberal styles of cartooning.
