Being a parent and remaining involved in your child's education is trying in the best of times but it becomes especially more difficult if you find yourself "going at it alone".

Life tends to have a way of running itself and it is easy to get wrapped up in the tasks of everyday living, overlooking the importance of remaining focused on your child's education; i.e. school liaisons, EFMP students, child development. It is imperative, for each and every parent to remain involved in their child's education.

Program's main focus is to provide valuable information to Single Parents (Active Duty, DA Civilians, Retirees & Veterans) regarding educational support services such as school location, school programs, and Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS). The program makes every effort to identify and support service needs of single parents within the Fort Bliss, El Paso & surrounding communities.

Every effort is made to identify those individuals who require assistance through their PCS move for housing , lodging, financial planning, but may not be aware of the valuable services that are available on post, off post & through other channels in the Ft. Bliss, El Paso & outlying areas; i.e. housing referrals, extended childcare.

FAQ:

Q1. Have you contacted Child, Youth and School Services for Child Care when you arrive at the installation?
A1: If they do accompany you, you can start making Child care arrangements with the Child, Youth and School Services at 568-4374. You can also review the numerous El Paso Child Care facilities at:

Q2. Have you contacted Housing or have you been placed on the Housing Wait list for Housing to help facilitate your move?
A2. Visit https://www.bliss.army.mil/dpw/Housing/index.html and select the link which best suites your needs.

Q3. Have you contacted lodging for your arrival and approximate stay dates?
A3. This is VERY important! Contact the Fort Bliss Lodging now and submit a reservation. Their number is (915) 565-7777 (webpage is currently unavailable). Before reserving off-post lodging you MUST have a Statement of Non-Availability from the lodging office.

Q4. Is your Family Care Plan up to date and in place?
A4. Coordinate with your unit prior to departure to ensure all of the proper paperwork is in order.

Q5. Are your Children traveling with you? Or will they be joining you at a later date? Have you made arrangements for their travel?
A5. If they do accompany you, ensure you have plenty of Child Care items like diapers, medication and clothes. However since emergencies are known to happen remember that you may be able to qualify for ACS emergency food vouchers and/or the Junior Enlisted Family Center Food Pantry at 568-7290 which generally has donated items like clothes, diapers, and other items. You can also start making Child care arrangements with the Child, Youth and School Services at 568-4374.

Items such as these can hinder a service member's move and take extra time to coordinate. Contacting the Single Parent Liaison can greatly cut down the time it would take to find out what programs and/or contact information is needed to connect you to the right ACS or Community Program.
