Requesting Materials - Login Screen
The login screen is used to authenticate users of the Library of Congress Online Catalog for the purpose of issuing online requests for Library materials. Library of Congress and Congressional staff members have been issued accounts in order to use the system.
Library patrons with Reader Identification Cards issued after April 15, 2009 will also be able to use this sytem beginning on or after May 26, 2009, after they have obtained a new Reader Identification Card and password.
Library of Congress Patrons
After obtaining a new Reader Identification Card, Library patrons will be required to go to the Main Reading Room in the Thomas Jefferson Building to get a temporary password for use during their initial login. After logging in successfully, Library patrons will be prompted to change the password to one of their own choosing. Passwords must be 5-12 characters in length and may only contain letters and numbers.
Assistance for Library patrons who experience problems with their passwords or accounts is provided at the central circulation desk in the Library's Main Reading Room.
Congress and Library Staff
Initial temporary passwords will be sent to Congress and Library of Congress staff in an email. The temporary password is used only at initial login to the system. Once logged in, users will be prompted to change to a password of their choice. Passwords must be 5-12 characters in length and may only contain letters and numbers.
Instructions for getting assistance for Congress and Library of Congress staff who experience problems with their passwords and accounts is provided at the end of the same email message that contained the temporary password.
