Florida Transportation Company Pleads Guilty to Hazardous Material Charges

Summary

Seaboard Marine, Ltd., Inc., an intermodal transportation services company, pled guilty in U.S. District Court, Miami to charges of transporting hazardous materials illegally. In July 2004, the firm had been charged with shipping a leaking cargo of hazardous chemicals (e.g., phosphoric and hydrochloric acid; isopropanol; and potassium and sodium hydroxide) via motor carrier to various locations in Miami-Dade county without proper hazardous material documentation and in violation of other DOT hazardous material transportation regulations. Sentencing is scheduled for December 1, 2004. The case is being jointly investigated by the State of FL Department of Environmental Protection and the Miami-Dade Police Department, with assistance from FMCSA.
