Claudette Trujillo of the Nuclear Materials Science Group (NMT-16) assists with rolling an enriched plutonium cookie on a laboratory-scale rolling mill during the historic casting of a “spiked” plutonium alloy May 13. Cold-rolling the as-cast plutonium emulates the process used at the Rocky Flats Plant to manufacture weapons components. To provide even more credibility to the process, the same grade of oil previously used at Rocky Flats, Texaco Regal ®, was used to lubricate the plutonium during rolling.
