2003: A winter storm produced rain, freezing rain, and snow across Iowa on February 14-15. The precipitation began as rain with significant freezing rain affecting far northwestern Iowa on the 14th, then changed over to snow with the entire state recording accumulations by the 15th. The heaviest snow fell in a wide band from west central into southeastern Iowa where 6 to 9 inch amounts were common. Locally higher accumulations were reported in parts of central and southeastern Iowa including 12.0 inches at Wapello, 12.5 inches at Grinnell, 12.8 inches at the Des Moines airport, and 13.0 inches at Ankeny.
