Homestead Air Reserve Base is located in Homestead, Florida. The facility has a unique history in implementation of sustainable planning and practices that dates back to the devastating effects of Hurricane Andrew on Homestead Air Force Base in 1992. As a result of the widespread destruction, the overall extent of operations and mission were severely impacted. As continuous proponents of environmental responsibility and stewardship, commitments were made at all levels within the Air Force Reserve Command to ensure that reconstruction of the facility would become a model of environmental planning. From this initial commitment, Homestead ARB has begun to develop an internal culture supporting sustainable operations while maintaining and even enhancing military readiness.
