The George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center depends on the goodwill of our benefactors and volunteers who wish to give something back to America's heroes. VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) works to provide supplemental assistance to hospital staff through the use of caring volunteers and donors.

Other Ways to Help!

You'd like to help but you don't have the time to volunteer at our Medical Center? VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) recognizes the special needs of our veterans and their families. VA has authority to accept monetary donations, in addition to gift certificates, discount cards, various gift cards, vouchers, etc.  Learn more about the other ways you can help.

  • Founded in 1946 to provide for our nation's veterans while they are cared for by VA health care facilities
  • One of the largest centralized volunteer programs in the Federal government
  • Over 350 organizations support VAVS
  • Volunteers have provided over 708 million hours of service since 1946

Community Assistance

  • Assist veteran patients by augmenting staff end of life care programs, foster care, community-based volunteer programs, hospital wards, nursing homes, and veteran outreach centers
