How Are We Doing?

VA Salt Lake City Health Care System sealEmployees of the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System go above and beyond the call of duty to meet and even succeed patient expectations when it comes to their health care. Many of our employees are Veterans themselves and are humbled to continue their service in this way. We welcome your feedback and honor your service.  We would also like to honor our dedicated employees who work so hard.  Thank you for your comments and we look forward to providing continued excellence in patient care.  You can also view the 2011 VA Salt Lake City Health Care Annual Report. Make sure to also take a look at our quarterly issue of VET Connection, this informative publication shows what new events, programs, and other happenings going on within VASLCHCS.
Here are some unsolicited letters from Veterans and their families.

IPU-Inpatient Psychiatry Unit:   A call was received from a very recent patient on the IPU (3A). He was discharged from IPU earlier this week and shared that he had an incredible experience on the unit due to the efforts and kindness of the IPU nursing staff. Specific words used to describe the nursing staff included: “caring, confident, incredibly attentive, and exceptional”. Overall, his inpatient experience was much improved because of the nursing staff. His final comment was, “I was just very impressed”.

SICU Staff:  Imagine a photograph of a gentleman sitting in a green garden, wearing his sun-glasses  and raising his glass of a cool beverage—with the written message on this photograph… ….“Here is to my 1st anniversary of Open Heart Surgery—thanks to the Bestest VA SICU Team in the USA”

Diane Niebuhr-Dental Support Assistant received this note from a veteran’s daughter…”Last month my father was in for some dental work.  During check-out, you gently asked about his POW experience.  That was the second time in 60 years, that he mentioned the time in Dresden.  It was a very touching moment to hear your thoughtful and genuine response….thanks for your kindness.”

Dr. Nord and Staff
I would like to thank you and your entire staff, especially Robbie Gittins.  Every time I talk to her or leave her a message she responds almost immediately and makes me feel like I am the most important person she is dealing with that day.  I don’t know much about this PACT program but since it started I feel like I have an entire medical staff working just for me! Thanks you for all you’ve done to put together this team and for the attitude that you’ve encouraged among your staff.

My Best Regards, Michael G.

Dear Mr. Young, this past Veterans Day 2011, I want to thank you for the staff you have at our local Veterans Center. I previously received my care at the Veterans hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After moving from Virginia to Salt Lake I have been more than pleased with the level of care and kindness that I receive here in Salt Lake City.

Thank you.

I'm writing to commend one of your nurses- Janice - for the help she provided my family during a recent stay by my father at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital. Upon meeting Janice, it was clear that she has an immense ability process information quickly and with great compassion. She spent extra time with us explaining the process that was underway determining my father's prognosis and care plan. Additionally, Janice provided terrific care for my father. She helped him enjoy the first beverage he had in 4 days - ensuring aspiration precautions were in place. She even gave him a bath before he was discharged; something I know comes from a loving place.

In the short time I have been here I have been treated really good. However, there is one nurse that in all my experiences has been the best nurse ever. Nicole Miller has been very attentive to me even with minor details. She goes above and beyond regardles of what personel or my medical care needs I may have.

“Thank you for the friendly and excellent care you gave our father in the ER on Feb 22nd.  We appreciate explaining the procedures and medical terms to us.  You have the nicest and the most friendly hospital”.
