Full Biography

Filemon Vela was born in Harlingen and raised in Brownsville, Texas. He graduated from Georgetown University and then went on to earn a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas Law School.

For over 20 years, Filemon has practiced law, helping countless individuals seek justice in our court system. He has been involved in public service and advocacy his entire life.  The Vela family history is deeply entrenched in public service. His late father, the Honorable Filemon B. Vela, served as a United States District Justice for over 20 years in the Brownsville Division of the Southern District of Texas. His mother Blanca Vela was the first woman mayor of Brownsville.

Filemon has been married to his lovely and accomplished wife Rose Vela for over 22 years. Filemon is committed to carrying on the legacy of service his family began
