The 47th Medical Group Mental Health Flight is comprised of the Mental Health Clinic, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program, the Family Advocacy Program, Resiliency Element (RE) and The Drug Demand Reduction Program.
The Mental Health Clinic is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinic is closed every third Wed of the month for training.
Mental Health: Common services received at the clinic are intervention and prevention for mental health issues related to pre-deployment, post-deployment, stress, anger, anxiety, depression, adjustment problems and relationship issues. Call the front desk (830-298-6422) for any questions about eligibility or appropriateness of receiving services from the clinic.
Services provided include:
- Mental Health consultation for commanders:
- Command Directed Evaluation consultation
- General mental health consultation
- Traumatic Stress Response
- Unit outreach/prevention briefings
Mental Health Clinic:
- Voluntary outpatient counseling for active duty
- Psychological testing/evaluation
- Special duty evaluations
- Pre/post deployment clearances
Mental Health Confidentiality:
"Confidentiality is essential to providing effective mental care. While mental health professionals have an obligation to make notifications to commanders in specific situations, they will operate from a presumption of non-notification. Mental health professionals will presume that they are not to notify a member's commander when a member obtains mental health services."
- We will only notify command in the following situations:
- Intent to harm self
- Intent to harm another
- Intent to harm mission
- Child or partner maltreatment
- Substance abuse
- Currently on PRP/PSP status
- Duty limiting conditions
- Threat to national security
Family Advocacy Program (FAP): The Family Advocacy Program is designed to identify report, assess and treat family maltreatment by providing clinical intervention for victims, offenders and other family members.
Programs within Family Advocacy include:
Family maltreatment evaluation and intervention
- Evaluation for suspected incidents of family maltreatment

-Family Advocacy Strengths Based Training (FAST), Individual, Couples, Family counseling
Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment (ADAPT): The ADAPT Program is designed to conduct substance abuse evaluations and provide outpatient substance abuse treatment.
Services provided include:
- Alcohol Brief Counseling for active duty
- Level 1.0 outpatient treatment for active duty
- Aftercare groups
- Outreach/prevention services
- Can be voluntary with minimal career impact
- Referrals for medical detoxification and rehabilitation at local civilian hospitals
Resiliency and Prevention Program: The Resiliency Element (RE) is designed to improve at the overall psychological health of the Electronic Systems Center and the 47th Flying Training Wing.
The primary goals are to:
- Increase resiliency skills
- Prevent suicide
- Prevent work place violence
- Reduce deployment and operational related stressors
- Decrease alcohol related mishaps
- Decreasing domestic violence
- Help the work force strike a healthy balance between mission focus and individual/family preparedness
Drug Demand Reduction Program: The Drug Demand Reduction Program is responsible for military and civilian drug testing programs for Hanscom AFB and surrounding Air Force geographically separated units. The focus is to deter the use of illegal drugs and the abuse of prescription medications. DDRP works to promote a drug free lifestyle, thus ensuring a safe work environment and a healthy and ready force.
DDRP is located in the 47th Medical Group building.
